ABOUT THE CREATORS:
Mexican-American Jesse James Leija, "The Texas Tornado," was born on July 8th, 1966 in San Antonio Texas. Jesse was born into a boxing family. His father, uncle, and grandfather were all professional boxers. James didn't turn to boxing until a coach in high school told him he couldn't play football because he was too small. He then turned to boxing and when people said he wouldn't make it, he became a world champion. James captivated HBO's boxing programming in the 90s and is a symbol of what it is to be a professional. Standing 5'5", Leija was a tough boxer-puncher who left his mark on modern boxing and secured a legacy as a 2 time World Champion. A father and husband outside the ropes, inside Jesse fought everyone at the top level from Oscar De La Hoya to Shane Mosley. He fought them all with the heart of a champion. Currently Jesse runs two gyms. "Champion Fit," in the San Antonio area. in 2011 James became writing partners with Author/screenwriter Dustin Warburton with the sole purpose of conveying good lessons to children. The result of that collaboration is Jesse and the Boogeyman. Warburton's other children's titles include "My Brother Eats Spiders," "The Little Monster's Guide on How to Scare Children," and "Bullies Aren't Scary," Co-authored with Former World Champion boxer and 2011 Hall of fame inductee Kostya Tszyu.
Jesse and the Boogeyman is illustrated by Dan Monroe, an accomplished artist, illustrator, and teacher.
