The Drive-in 1: A “B” Movie with Blood and Popcorn, Made in Texa
Average Rating: 5 ★★★★★
My first encounter with Joe Lansdale's writing was the short piece, "Night They Missed The Horror Show" - still my favorite post-Poe tale of terror. So when I saw this title way back when, I buckled up and shifted into "D". I grew up in a small town served by a centrally-located drive-in theater. Joe Lansdale evokes all the smells, sounds, and teenage ennui of a night at the movies, and then throws open the gates of a one-lane dirt road to Hell and back. The Drive-in series drops the reader in the kind of apocalyptic movie set that keeps you grinning even while curling your toes and whitening your knuckles.
